About Dr. Michael Gaudiani

Dr. Michael Gaudiani is a resident physician in orthopedic surgery at Henry Ford Health (HFH) in Detroit, Michigan. As a fourth-year resident physician in the Henry Ford Hospital program, Dr. Gaudiani helps to provide musculoskeletal care to patients all over the greater Metro Detroit area. Henry Ford Hospital is the flagship hospital of the health system and a Level 1 trauma center with some of the sickest patients and worst injuries in the state.

A distinguished and prolific researcher, Dr. Gaudiani has also contributed significantly to his field. He has authored an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed research papers in orthopedic surgery and has presented at multiple regional and national conferences.

A Graduate of Harvard University and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

Michael Gaudiani’s undergraduate work was at Harvard University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Evolutionary Biology with a minor in English. He received his medical degree in 2021 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, with Honors in Research and joined Henry Ford Health shortly after. Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is a US News and World Report Tier 1 medical school and Ohio’s largest biomedical research center.

Dr. Gaudiani was first introduced to the medical field while attending Harvard University, when he worked as a licensed EMT-B at a local ambulance company, providing pre-hospital care to patients in the greater Boston area. After graduating, he worked as a research assistant at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, coordinating clinical research efforts and assisting in the creation of conference presentations and manuscripts. There, his interest in orthopedic surgery and clinical research began.

Dr. Gaudiani’s research spans a broad spectrum of topics within his field, demonstrating a deep commitment to advancing knowledge and driving innovation. Dr. Gaudiani participated in numerous research projects at top-tier institutions, including Henry Ford Health, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University Hospitals, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. A Distinguished Swimmer

Dr. Gaudiani is passionate about taking care of both recreational and elite athletes. In fact, during high school and college, he was a dominant force in competitive swimming and at multiple national meets. Michael Gaudiani led his high school team to multiple State Championship titles and his college team to an Ivy League Conference Championship title. In 2012, he qualified and competed at the United States Olympic Team Trials in the 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 400 individual medley. He also received one of his greatest honors and was elected co-captain by his teammates and coaches for both his high school and NCAA Division I college swimming teams. The criteria for captaincy included not just athletic performance but work ethic, consistency, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

Active in His Community

You will also find Michael Gaudiani to be an active member of the communities he serves, helping to make them stronger, more welcoming, and more cohesive. In college, he volunteered as a swimming instructor at Harvard University and as a teaching fellow in the sciences for local public high school students and a middle school in rural Vietnam. In medical school, faculty elected him to the Case School of Medicine Joint Clinical Oversight Group to evaluate and improve clinical experiences at affiliated hospitals. Additionally, Gaudiani was elected by medical school classmates to be Treasurer of the Case School of Medicine Intersociety Council, which organized student life events for the medical school. He also participated as a Clinical Skills Preceptor at Case, leading foundational workshops for first-year medical school students and as a Student Interviewer for future medical students. Dr. Michael Gaudiani is passionate about providing mentorship and increased opportunities for students seeking exposure to the sciences and conducting medical research. He serves as a formal and informal career and research mentor for students at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

At 31, Dr. Gaudiani has already received numerous awards, honors, and grants. These include The Arthroscopy Association of North America/Orthoregeneration Network Award in 2024, a 2021 Mid-America Orthopaedic Association Medical Student Education Grant, a 2018 The Crile Summer Research Fellowship in Surgery, a 2018 Hospital for Special Surgery Medical Student Summer Fellowship, and a 2013 Harvard College Weissman International Experience Grant.

Michael Gaudiani is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and Harvard Varsity Club. Dr. Gaudiani’s interests include Cleveland sports teams, running, biking, and golf.
